Funeral services for Alwin P. Pfister, 79, retired farmer, were held Tuesday afternoon from St. John’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn I. Vanderbilt officiating.

Pfister died Saturday night in the Decorah Hospital after an illness of about two years. The Steine Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements with burial in St. John’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Norman Pfister, Lester Pfister, Walter Pfister, George Pfister, Stanford Osmundson and George Young.

Mrs. Glenn Vanderbilt was organist and Mrs. Willard Linnevold was soloist. Kay Pfister, Muriel Pfister, Jane Pfister and Carol Pfister were members of the floral committee.

Alwin, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Pfister, was born Feb. 27, 1878, in Winneshiek County. He attended rural schools and Valdres Business College.

He married Lena Burmeister in the Big Springs, Minn., Lutheran Church June 25, 1903. They were the parents of seven children, Norman, Walter, George, Lester and Gordon of Decorah, Mrs. Sanford (Elsie) Osmundson of Spring Grove and Mrs. George (Luella) Young of Mabel.The Pfisters moved to Decorah in 1947. He was a county supervisor and treasurer of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, 7 children, 12 grandchildren, and one brother, Willet, of Preston, Minn.
