Edna M. Grindeland, 72, of Decorah, died Nov. 5 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Funeral services were Nov. 8, 1989, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust. The Rev. Arland Braaten-Lee conducted the services. Organist was Alan Sensor and soloist was Marilyn Helland. French and Balik Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements, with burial at the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Everett Sollien, Mark Sollien, Palmer A. Anderson, Donald Stoskopf, Curtis Lippe and Ricky Lippe.
Edna Wendling was born July 23, 1917, in Highland Township, the daughter of John and Emma Pfister Wendling. She attended rural schools in the Locust area and Decorah High School. She married Kenneth Grindeland Feb. 7, 1940, at St. John’s parsonage. He preceded her in death in 1980. She had lived in Winneshiek County all her life. She was a life-long member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Locust, where she was baptized and confirmed. She was a member of the Morning Circle.
Survivors are three children, Joanne Helland of Cedar Falls, Karen Brown of Decorah and Linda Johnson of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; one brother, Howard Wendling of Decorah; and two sisters, Helen Amundson of Teaneck, N.J., and Marion Erickson of Rochester, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one grandson, Kevin Helland.
