Arnold R. Pahl of Springfield Township died Friday, March 2 at his home. Mr. Pahl who had been employed by Roverud Construction the past 15 years and also had farmed in Springfield Township, was 49 at the time of his death.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, March 5 by Pastor Alden Hovda at Decorah Lutheran Church with burial in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Locust. Pallbearers were Rueben Styve, Greg Hovden, Roger Pahl, Allen Enyart, of West Union, Obert Johnson of Waukon and Bruce Hovden. Mrs. Otto Ruen was organist and accompanied the congregation as they sang hymns.

Arrangements were made by Steine Funeral Home.

Mr. Pahl is survived by his wife, the former Thelma B. Johnson; four daughters and five sons, Mrs. Larry (Sharon) Walter, Oelwein, Pamela Pahl, Waterloo, Arlin, Michael, Debra, Danny and Fredrick Pahl, all of Decorah, Mrs. Charles (Trudy) Gaffey, Greeley, Colo. and Ken Allen of Waterloo. He also is survived by five grandchildren; one brother, Harold Pahl of Chicago, ILL. and a sister, Mrs. Carsten (Lorraine) Hovden, Decorah.

Arnold Pahl was born May 2, 1923 in Decorah, the son of Fred and Hannah (Johnson) Pahl. He attended rural schools and was a veteran of World War II. He was married October 27, 1946. Mr. Pahl was a member of Decorah Lutheran Church.

He was preceded in death by his parent.
