Funeral service for Henry Bigler, 89, retired Decorah area farmer, were held March 5, at 1:30 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Locust.
Mr. Bigler died March 3 at the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah. The Rev. Gerhard Brase conducted the services. Organist was Connie Bolson, and soloist was Brenda Lualdi. Burial was at St. John’s Cemetery, with Sensor-French Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Dennis, Ernest and Ronald Bigler, Lyle Opheim, Gordon Ellingson and Harvey Houck.
Elmer Bigler was born June 22, 1898, in Luana in Allamakee County, the son of Ernest and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Bigler. He attended Allamakee and Winneshiek County Schools. He married the former Tilvina J. Ellingson July 20, 1927. She preceded him in death in 1986.
Mr. Bigler had lived in rural Luana and Castalia, and in Pleasant Township. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Postville, and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Luana.
Survivors include five sons, Kenneth, Roger and David, all of Decorah, George of Waukon, and Dr. Wilbur Bigler of West Union; two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Ethel) Ellingson and Mrs. Douglas (Ellen) Dickman, both of Decorah; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one brother, Walter, of Decorah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one son, Kermit; one grandson; five brothers, Roy, Lester, Harvey, George and Harry; and a sister, Elsie Bigler.
