Henry Chamberlin
The friends of Henry E. Chamberlin were grieved to learn of his passing on December 2, 1953, in Los Angeles, California, where he has made his home with his son, Ernest, since 1945.
Mr. Chamberlin was born in Worcester, Massachusetts, September 25, 1857. His parents moved to Iowa when he was a small boy, and settled on a farm near Waukon, later moving to Frankville. He spent the greater part of his life there and on his farm nearby.
In 1880 he was married to Kathryn Smith, and to them four children were born, Ernest, Glenn, Beatrice and Stella. Kathryn Chamberlin passed away in 1900, and later he married Cora McKay, who passed away in 1945.
Mr. Chamberlin lived to be 96 years old, and though obliged to use crutches because of a hip injury many years ago, he was always cheerful. Since coming to California, he devoted his time to his favorite hobby of designing and making wall brackets of various kinds. Though happy to be with his children in California, he always thought of Iowa as "home". He took great pride in the fact that some of the finest houses and barns in that area had been built by him.
Mr. Chamberlin is survived by his son, Ernest, and daughters, Mrs. Joseph Sodoma and Mrs. James Lewis, all of Los Angeles, California; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Also his sisters, Mrs. Paul Lamy, Jersey, England, Mrs. F. A. Hoyt and Miss Maude Chamberlin, Green Lake, Wisconsin, and Mrs. Gertrude Patterson of Appleton, Wisconsin.
