Kenneth Austin, resident of Hesper, dies at age 61

Mabel -- Kenneth Austin, 61, of Hesper, a former employee of Mabel Lumber Co., died Sunday at his home of cancer following a long illness.

He was born July 27, 1923, in Root Prairie, Fillmore County, and attended school in Fountain. On Jan.1, 1955, he and Joyce Robinson were married in Preston and they resided in Mabel and Hesper during their married lives.

A World War II veteran, he belonged to the Joseph Lund American Legion Post and Kittelson-Onsgard VFW both in Mabel.

Survivors included his wife; a son, Greg at home; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Colleen) Nelson of Mabel; two grandchildren: two brothers Adrian of Mabel and Merlin of Brownsville; and a sister, Mrs. Donald (Alene) Ward of Lanesboro.

The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Hesper Friends Church with the Rev. David Runyon officiating. Burial will be in Hesper Public Cemetery.

Friends may call at Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel after 3 p.m. today, and at the church one hour before the service Wednesda
