John Bernard “Jack” Jaster, the son of John L. and Neva (Waters) Jaster, was born March 22, 1945 in Postville, Iowa. Jack graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1963. He served with the Iowa National Guard. Jack worked with his father at the Ossian Feed Mill for several years. After the mill was sold he started working for Ozark, selling insurance and mutual funds. Jack also worked for Agriprocessors in Postville and Monona Wire. Jack was united in marriage with Karen Kohrs on October 29, 1966 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. To this union, three children were born.
Jack’s death occurred Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital in Guttenberg, Iowa. He was sixty-six years old. Jack was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian. For eighteen years, Jack was very active with Ossian Troop # 88 of the Boy Scouts of America, as a Webelos leader and Scoutmaster. His hobbies include woodcarving, panning for Gold in the kitchen, taking the grandkids fishing and also spending time with them, and watching TV.
Jack is survived by his wife, Karen, of Ossian; three children, John L. (Stephanie) Jaster of Spring Grove, Minnesota; Shannon (Chuck) Covell of Ossian; and Chad (Julie) Jaster of Ossian; seven grandchildren, Jaquelyn, Jordan, and Josephina Jaster,; Amy and Austin Covell; and Brady and Paige Jaster; his mother, Neva Jaster, of Ossian; one sister, Bonnie (Dale) Pape of West Union, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, who died on April 22, 1986, and his grandparents.
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2011, at 1:00 pm at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa . Monsignor Cletus Hawes will officiate. Friends may call from 4 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the Schmitz-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Ossian and one hour before services at the church on Thursday.
Private Family Inurnment will be held at a later date in the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Cemetery, Ossian .
