Funeral services for Leslie John Mundt, age 75, of Castalia, Iowa, were held Saturday, August 17, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, Iowa with Rev. Howard Wolfgram officiating. Casket bearers were Lyle Kneeskern, Loren Koenig, Robert Szabo, Page Wirkler, James Hawkins, and Dale Bodensteiner. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia, Iowa.

Leslie John Mundt, son of Henry and Rosa (Meyer) Mundt, was born May 9, 1916 on the family farm in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Ossian, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith at the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. He attended the Centennial School. On September 2, 1938 Leslie and Leora Bloxham were married at the home of her parents officiated by Rev. William Striepe. They were the parents of four children.

Les was a good neighbor, farmer, and served his community well. He had served many times on the A.S.C. Board, was a Farm Bureau Member and officer, an officer of the Lutheran Credit Union, President, Deacon and Trustee of the Zion Lutheran Church, was on the Centennial Cemetery Board, a Bloomfield Township Trustee and a Fire Department Board member. He was the current president of KEWS and the Bloomfield Historical Society. Les and Leora moved to Castalia in 1979 from the family farm where he had lived and worked for 63 years. However, Les still went out to the farm almost every day until he sold it to the Brincks brothers, Donald, Larry, and Lyle, in 1989. He also worked as a carpenter with Clifford Osmundson for many years.

Leslie John Mundt became ill in April of this year and was diagnosed with inoperable cancer, which progressed rapidly. He died last Tuesday, August 13, 1991 at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Glen Mundt and Lloyd Mundt.

Les is survived by his wife, Leora; a daughter Shelby Mundt of Castalia, Iowa, 3 sons, Donald (Joyce) Mundt of Danbury, Connecticut, Kelly (Ruth) Mundt of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and Craig (Linda) Mundt of Ossian, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, Deborah Jojo, Donald Mundt, John Mundt, Kristin Mundt, Jeremy Mundt, and Erica Mundt; 1 great-grandchild, Malana Elizabeth Jojo; 4 sisters, Viola (Milton) Birdsell, Mildred (Vernon) Lofte, all of Ossian, Iowa, Ruth (James) Kallevang of Cresco, Iowa, and Marvel (Walter) Ode of Whalan, Minnesota.
