Evelyn Agnes Valland, 81, Ossian, Iowa, died Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, Iowa. Evelyn was born on February 12, 1930, rural Ossian, to Oscar and Laura (Hagelie) Fosaaen. Evelyn attended school in the Ossian area. She was united in marriage to Albert Valland at the Stavanger Lutheran Parsonage on July 6, 1953. They were the proud parents of three children.
Evelyn worked at Ossian Senior Hospice, St. Francis de Sales Catholic School and Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Her greatest joy was raising her children and caring for their needs. She enjoyed all kinds of flowers, gardening, sewing, crocheting, cooking and spending time with her family. Evelyn was a faithful member of Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, for many years.
Survivors include her three children, Annie (Tim) McDaniels, Bloomington, MN, Jeannie (Jerry) Bolgren, North Aurora, IL, Elmer Valland, Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Dean) Kloeckl, Christopher McDaniels, Ryan McDaniels, Patrick McDaniels, Laura McDaniels, Jennifer (Chris) Newby, Joni (Scott) Oberlin, Jamie (Michael) Cullen; eleven great-grandchildren; one sister, Darlene (Roy) Klitzke, New Glarus, WI and two brothers, Jordeen Fosaaen, Waukon and Marvin (Joan) Fosaaen, Georgetown, FL.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert Valland, on March 26, 2007; one sister, Ethel Zweibohmer and one brother, Obert Fosaaen.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, Iowa, with Lay-Pastor Roy Christophersen officiating.
Burial will follow in the Stavanger Lutheran Cemetery, rural Ossian, Iowa.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church on Wednesday.
Schmitz Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Ossian, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
