Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Savanna Marie Rose Horns, daughter of Dwight and Sara (Brincks) Horns, was born October 6, 1999 at 8:23 p.m. at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. With great love and pride her family watched over Savanna from the moment she arrived. Weighing five pounds and one ounce at birth, she was a precious and beautiful little girl in every way. From her first moments, Savanna was short of breath and battling against a viral infection that had destroyed her immune system. Caring hands and hearts surrounded her as she was airlifted from Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital to Gunderson Lutheran Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. As the minutes passed, she became a maze of medical technology. with aching hearts, doctors, nurses, family and friends watched and prayed as Savanna bravely fought to remain in her new world.
On the morning of October 7, 1999, her mother and father made the painful but loving decision to remove the artificial life support that had sustained her life. A few minutes later, the precious spirit that fought to keep Savanna's earthly body alive, left it to rest in her heavenly home. Though her time was limited, Savanna touched many lives, was loved by all and her cherished spirit will remain forever.
In addition to her mother and father, Savanna leaves her maternal grandparents Jerry and Janet Brincks of Calmar, Iowa and paternal grandparents, Irving and Barbara Horns of Decorah, Iowa. Arrangements were handled by French and Balik Funeral Home of Calmar, Iowa.
NOTE: The obituary did not list the place of burial but it is thought that she probably was buried in the Calmar Lutheran Cemetery.
