Funeral services for former Tri-County Superintendent of Schools, Abner A. Hendrickson, age 85, of Decorah, Iowa were held Monday, January 1 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Pastors James M. Glesne and John V. Halvorson conducted the 11 a.m. services. Burial was in the Lutherann Cemetery with Fjelstul Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Rolf Brende, James Burns, Roger Morris, David Shaw, Robert D. Usgaard, and C.R. Wyse. Honorary pallbearers were Gordon Christianson, Charles Stoen, Alvon Nelson, Valborg Nelson, George Strum and Arlene Strum.

Abner A. Hendrickson, son of Henry A. and Caroline (Tysland) Hendrickson, was born June 2, 1904 in Waterville, Iowa. He graduated from Waukon High School in 1922 and Luther College in 1926. He received his Master's Degree in school administration from the University of Minnesota. His first wife, Olivia C. * Her maiden name was not listed. * died December 4, 1982. They were the parents of 3 children. On September 7, 1984 he married Lola M. Larson at the Decorah Lutheran Church. Abner taught school in Livermore and Chester before becoming superintendent at Lime Springs, Iowa, Howard County Superintendent of Schools in Cresco, Iowa, then Tri-County Superintendent of Schools in Decorah, Iowa. The Abner Hendrickson School in Decorah was named for him for his many years of dedication in the field of education. He was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church and its choir, Luren Singing Society, Symra, Decorah Chamber of Commerce, Phi Delta Kappa, and Oneota Golf and Country Club.

Abner A. Hendrickson died Saturday, December 30, 1989 at the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital. In addition to his first wife, Olivia, he was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Esther Sorenson, and Adeline Uglum Lair, and a grandson, Vik Thomas Hendrickson.

He is survived by his wife, Lola; 3 children, A. Roger Hendrickson of Auburn, California, Carmen Evans of Gallup, New Mexico, and Sandra Gryting of Kirksville, Missouri; 8 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
