Davis was born February 11, 1931 in Decorah to Wilbur and Louella (Thorson) Buddenberg. He was baptized at Decorah Lutheran and confirmed at Zion Lutheran in Castalia.
At a very young age, he and his parents moved to the family farm north of Castalia. Davis attended country school known as the Buddenberg School through seventh grade; he then graduated from Castalia Public School at the end of eighth grade, attended Postville School for two years and graduated from Ossian Public School in 1949. There were seven in his graduating class.
Davis married Gretchen Gruhn October 28, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville. Five children were born to this union. They lived and worked for 35 years on the Buddenberg farm together. Their son, Michael, and his family are living on the Buddenberg farm now, where they celebrated the century farm June 24, 2000.
Davis enjoyed “retirement” moving from little trucks to big trucks (semis). He was happiest while driving, the more horsepower the better, or visiting with others, phone always in hand. He had a talent for driving and talking on the phone. Gretchen passed away December 31, 2000. Later, Davis married Harriet Albert.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet Buddenberg of Fayette; four children, Natalie Buddenberg of Decorah, Michael (Ann) Buddenberg of Castalia, Catherine (John) Holdsworth of Monroe, and Matthew (Heidi) Buddenberg of Decorah; eight grandchildren, Rachel (Nick) Ackerman, Kerri (Dan) Johannsen, Dereck and Lindsey Buddenberg, Miranda and Dylan Holdsworth, Emma and Jace Buddenberg; two great-grandchildren, Mason Ackerman and Milo Johannsen; two sisters, Janet (Karl) Asmus and Bonnie (Marv) Byce; and Harriet’s children and grandchildren.
