Ethel Irene Harvey

Ethel Irene Harvey, 88, of Ossian died Monday, March 25, 1991, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian. She was born the daughter of Isaac J. and LaVina (Albright) Allen in rural Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa on December 16, 1902.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, March 28, 1991, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church at Castalia, with Pastor Verdon Swenson officiating.

Casket bearers were Eric Bell, Robert Brandt, Albert Tinderholt, Jerry Monroe, Virgil Reckward, and Jerry Anderson. Burial was in Bloomfield Township Cemetery with Schmitz Funeral Home of Ossian handling arrangements.

Ethel was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Castalia. She was a lifetime member and a member of the M.C.A. Club.

She received her education by attending the Oak Hill Country School and Postville schools, from which she graduated in 1920.

On December 22, 1923, Ethel married Harold F. Harvey in the Methodist parsonage at West Union. They had one son, Robert Harvey of Castalia and one daughter, Janet Bell of Superior, WI. After Harold's death in September 1968, Ethel and her son Robert moved to Castalia. Ethel had been a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice since 1983.

Survivors include her son Robert Harvey, one daughter, Janet Bell, one grandson, Eric Bell, one great-grandson, Orlie Peterson, one sister, Iva Thompson, Zephyrhills, FL and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, one brother, Lynn Allen and four sisters, Mabel Schmitz, Mildred Allen, Marie Cannon and Esther Schultz.
