James C. Hangartner
Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia on Friday, February 7 at 1:30 p.m. for James C. Hangartner of Castalia who died Tuesday, February 4. The Rev. Perry Brown officiated. Interment was in the Postville cemetery.
Born June 27, 1912 in Allamakee county near Postville, he was the son of Conrad and Etta Segrist Hangartner. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran church, Postville, April 19, 1913 and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia.
He attended West Grove school in Allamakee county.
He farmed and also operated the Postville Sales Commission for several years until ill health forced his retirement in 1966.
On October 26, 1940 he was married to Bernice Shafer at Ludlow.
Survivors include his wife, sons Roger of Camarillo, California; Randy of Ankeny; Lonnie at home and a daughter Mary of Madison, Wisconsin. There are also two granddaughters; two brothers, Lynn of Luana and LaVern of Elkhart, Indiana; four sisters, Mrs. Helen Bloxham of Evansdale; Mrs. Esther VanWey of Frankville; Mrs. Hazel Mackey, Luana and Mrs. Ann Wright of Bristol, Indiana.
