Thomas J. Knox, age 71, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 18, 1987 at Mercy Hospital following a long illness. Funeral services were held Friday, February 20 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Rev. Eugene Kutsch officiated. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery with military graveside services by the VFW Post 788 of Cedar Rapids, Iowa with Teahen Funeral Home of Cedar rapids, Iowa in charge of arrangements.

Thomas was born February 18, 1916 in Winneshiek County to Thomas E. and Mary (Cashman) Knox. On February 2, 1937 he married Frances M. Wicks at Plymouth Rock Church in Winneshiek County. He farmed in Mabel, Minnesota until 1954 when he moved to Waukon, Iowa in Allamakee County where he worked as a carpenter until 1956. He moved to Cedar Rapids and worked at Quaker Oats until his retirement in 1981. During his years at Quaker Oats, he served as President of the Retail, Wholesale, and Departmemt Store Union, Local 110, from 1967 to 1968. He was a WWII Army Veteran and a member of St. Jude's Catholic Church and the VFW Post 4117 in Waukon, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and 4 sisters, Vera Gilbertson, Geraldine Bell, Marcella Knox, and Mary Knox who died in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Frances; 2 sons, Gerald Knox of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Eugene Knox of Waukon, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; and 4 sisters, Mildred Drew of Eustes, Florida, Genevieve Freidoff of Elma, Iowa, Regina Broghammer of Decorah, Iowa, and Grace Knox of Iowa City, Iowa.
