Funeral services were held Monday January 18 for Mildred I. Vangen, age 82, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa who died January 14, 1988 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Pastor Gary Hess officiated at the 10 a.m. services held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Turner Chapel East of Cedar Rapids, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa with Pastor Landis Olson officiating. Burial was in the Pontoppidian Cemetery. Casket bearers were her grandsons.

Mildred was born December 17, 1905 in Waukon, Iowa to Lars J. and Isabel (Ellingson) Larson. On December 22, 1925 she married Edgar L. Vangen in Waukon, Iowa. He died in 1962. She was a member of St. Mark's Church and Hanford Post #5 of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are 4 daughters, Bernice Gemilere of Marion, Iowa, Ethel Ilten, Eileen Baird and Eldeen Lenth, all of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 2 sons, Roland Vangen and Roy Vangen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Esther Bigler of Decorah, Iowa and Vivian Hayes of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 4 brothers, Kenneth Larson, Earl Larson, Anton Larson, and Lester Larson, all of Decorah, Iowa.
