Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Lydia M. Cook, age 85, of Decorah, Iowa and formerly of Castalia, Iowa died Saturday, September 26, 1987, at Winneshiek Memorial Hospital, Decorah, Iowa. Services were held Tuesday at Frankville Presbyterian Church, Frankville, Iowa with burial at the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa. Rev. James Elvig conducted the services. Fjelstul Funeral Home of Decorah, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Bruce, Dennis, Larry, Paul, Robert, and Thomas Cook.
Lydia was born in Bloomfield Township, Castalia, Iowa in Winneshiek County, the daughter of Charles and Anna (Pliester) Linderbaum. She attended rural schools in Winneshiek County. She married Perlie Cook on March 10, 1923 at Decorah, Iowa. They had 3 children, Merle, LaVerne and Duane. They farmed in the Moneek and Frankville area. For the last 17 years she has lived in Decorah, Iowa. Perlie died November 20, 1981. Lydia was a member of the Presbyterian Church, the Ladies Aid and the Winneshiek County Historical Society.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Clara Cutting and 3 brothers, Earl Linderbaum, Walter Linderbaum, and Carl Linderbaum.
Survivors include her sons, Merle Cook of Postville, Iowa, and LaVerne Cook and Duane Cook, both of Decorah, Iowa; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; 4 brothers, Charles Linderbaum of Castalia, Iowa, Lawrence Linderbaum of Luana, Iowa and Edward Linderbaum and Arthur Linderbaum, both of Ossian, Iowa; and 3 sisters, Elsie Hughes of Ossian, Iowa and Jennie Clement and Alma Burreson of Decorah, Iowa.
