George Bachelder, director emeritus of financial aid at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa died July 2, 1986 in Rochester, Minnesota after a long illness. Funeral services were held Monday, July 7 at 11 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, Iowa. *Interment is not listed.*

George Bachelder, age 54, was born March 17, 1932 in Postville, Iowa to Earl Chester and Hattie Lizzie (Brandt) Bachelder. He married Loretta Blumhagen.

He attended local Postville schools. He entered Luther College as a student in 1950-51, studied at Iowa State University the next year and returned to Luther College in 1954. He received his B.A. Degree from Luther in 1964. He was a staff member at Luther College since 1956 until his retirement in 1982. He began as the credit manager in 1956, joined the financial aid program when it was formed in 1958 and was named the financial aid officer in 1964.

He is survived by his wife, Loretta of Decorah, Iowa; 2 children, Daniel Bachelder, age 28, of Denver, Colorado and Janene Bachelder, age 25 of Decorah, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Mrs. Orville (Irene) Koenig and Mrs. Earl (Bernice) Koenig.
