Henry "Bill" Buddenberg

Henry "Bill" Buddenberg, 72, Castalia, Iowa, died Saturday, February 5, 2011, at his home. Bill was born on June 2, 1938, on the family farm near Castalia, Iowa, to Melvin John and Vera Zella (Meyer) Buddenberg. Bill graduated from Ossian High School, Ossian, Iowa, with the class of 1956.

Bill was united in marriage to Madeline Rawson on June 1, 1960, at the U.B. Church, Castalia, Iowa. Five children were born to this union. Madeline later passed away on November 1, 1990. Bill was then united in marriage to Dianne Szabo Meyer on June 6, 1992, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa.

Bill farmed the family farm for many years and had a Vigortone Dealership. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Castalia Fire Department for many years. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Bill will be deeply missed by the many people who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Dianne, Castalia; four children, Randy Buddenberg, Decorah, Doug (Pam) Buddenberg, Castalia, Bruce (Julie) Buddenberg, Castalia, Lynn (Leland) Monroe, Ossian; one step-daughter, Jacque (Craig) Walby, Arcadia, WI; eleven grandchildren, Josh (Amy), Zac, Julie, Brittany (Justin), Bridget (Matt), Blake, Chanse, Cassidy, Josie, Caleb, Madelyn; three step-grandchildren, Brandon, Jonathan, Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren, Decklyn, Beckett, Leyton; four step-great-grandchildren, Austin, Nolan, Lucas, Leah and two sisters, Lolita Engelhardt, Postville and Beverly (Bob) Cowles, Ossian.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Madeline Buddenberg; one son, Brett Buddenberg, on December 28, 1985 and two brothers-in-law, Earl Johnson and Oran Engelhardt.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 9, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, Iowa. The Rev. Dave Lenth will officiate.

Burial will follow in Pleasantview Cemetery, Castalia, Iowa.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 8, 2011, from 3-8 p.m. at the Schutte-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Postville, Iowa, and one hour before services at the church on Wednesday.
