Elizabeth Street
Elizabeth Alice Street, 50, Wapello, died Friday, June 20, 1986, at University of Iowa Hospitals, Iowa City, of leukemia.
She was born Dec. 22, 1935, in rural Louisa County, to David and Hattie Hardin Gerst. She attended rural schools in Des Moines and Louisa counties and graduated from Oakville High School in 1954. She married Keith Street in Oakville on June 2, 1956. The couple lived in Deep River, Iowa, until August 1957, when they moved to Wapello.
Mrs. Street operated the Sears Catalog Store in Wapello from 1974 to 1979. She was pursuing degrees in computer programming and English at Muscatine Community College when her illness developed. She worked as a legal secretary in Muscatine until she became too ill to continue.
Survivors: Her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Laura Chaplin of Rushville, Ill., Mrs. Robert Minder of Muscatine, Sheilah Curtis of Muscatine, and Alisa Street of Wapello; seven brothers, Roger Gerst of Oakville, Ray Gerst of Mediapolis, Richard Gerst of Springfield, Ill., David Gerst of Lomax, Ill., Jim Gerst of Hedrick, John Gerst of Burlington and Don Gerst of Waukesha, Wis.; five sisters, Mrs. Janet Shipman of Oakville, Mrs. Carol Hartman, Ruthann Humiston of West Des Moines; Mrs. Kathy Beard of Wapello, and Mary Lynn Grooms of Oakville.; five grandchildren; 41 nieces and nephews.
At Mrs. Street's request, her body was deeded to the University of Iowa Medical School, so there will be no burial, viewing or visitation. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at the Wapello Methodist Church. A family visitation will follow the service in the church basement.
