Nathaniel Groff, Decorah Native, dies in Iowa City
Nathaniel James Groff of Cedar Rapids died Monday, January 2, 1978 in the V.A. Hospital in Iowa City, following a sudden illness.
Mr. Groff was born April 18, 1917 at Decorah, was married to Iola Einck January 11, 1953 at the Pontappidian Church in Glenwood Township. He graduated from Luther College with honors and did graduate work at the University of Iowa.
Mr. Groff had been a resident of Cedar Rapids, and an employee of Collins Radio for 25 years as a sales analysis supervisor. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, Supervisors Club of Collins Radio and the V.F.W. He was a veteran of World War II. having served in the Navy six years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Donna Ellickson of Cedar Rapids, a stepson, Carlyce Einck of Bettendorf, his mother, Pearl Groff of Decorah, ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, James Groff and his sister, Mrs. Alfred (Carol) Lysne who passed away September 9, 1977 at LaCrosse.
Services were held January 5, 1978 at the First Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids. Dr. George W. Carlson officiated. Burial was at Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Pallbearers were David Ellickson, Donald Ellickson, Joel Ellickson, Ronald Lysne, Robert Lysne and Craig Kroupa.

Nathaniel James Groff, 60, of 931-25th St. S.E., died Monday in an Iowa City hospital following a sudden illness.
Born April 18, 1917, at Decorah, he married Iola Einck Jan. 11, 1953, at Decorah. He was a graduate of Luther College and did graduate work at the University of Iowa.
Mr. Groff had been a Cedar Rapids resident and employee of Collins Radio Co. for 25 years. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Supervisors Club at Collins Radio and the V.F.W. He was a World War II Navy veteran.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Donna Ellickson, Cedar Rapids; a stepson, Carlyce Einck, Bettendorf; his mother, Pearl Groff, Decorah; and ten grandchildren.
Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church by Dr. George W. Carlson. Burial will be in Decorah. Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Turner Chapel East, and at the church from 9 a.m. until 10:25 a.m. Thursday. The casket will not be opened after the service. The family suggests that friends may, if they wish, contribute to the Kidney Foundation or to the Memorial Fund of First Lutheran Church.
