Lyle W. Hunter, 80, of Calmar, Iowa died Monday, March 20, 1989 in the Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital of heart failure after an illness of about four years. He was a Skelgas truck driver until his retirement.

Burial prayer service was held at 10 a.m. Thursday March 23, 1989 at French Funeral Home, Calmar. A memorial mass was held Monday at 9 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Pallbearers were John E. Hunter, Jr., Robert Guttormson,Jr., Steven Herold, Dale Leuenberger, Kermit Kruger, and Orval Cook. Burial was in the St. Aloysius cemetery, Calmar, Iowa.

Lyle Witt Hunter was born January 10, 1909 at Castalia, Iowa to Roy and Clara (Witt) Hunter. After attending nine years of school, he served in World War II. His first wife, Eva Hawkins preceded him in death. Eva died March 23, 1956. He married Caroline Funke October 25, 1956 at Preston, Minnesota. He lived in Ossian from 1932 to 1952 when he moved to Calmar. He was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church.

Surviving is his wife, Caroline; a son John Hunter of Minneapolis, Minnesota; two daughters, Helen Herold of Clinton, Missouri and Patricia Gerlich of Des Moines, Iowa; a sister, Vivian Leuenberger of Spillville, Iowa; eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
