Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Ervin Wenthold, a well-known farmer for many years in the Festina, Iowa area, died Wednesday in the Lutheran hospital at LaCrosse, Wisconsin following a long illness. *This newspaper did not list the date of his death. However, based on unrelated information on the back of the clipping, it was probably sometime between March 1 AND March 22, 1989*
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of Seven Dolors Catholic Church, in Festina, by the Rev. Donald Heineman. Pallbearers were Mike Einck, Steve Bushman, Robert Busch, Steve Lechtenberg, Terry Wenthold, and Ronald Koester. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Mr. Wenthold was born March 1, 1919 in Winneshiek County to Barney and Elizabeth (Busch) Wenthold. He attended St. Mary's parochial school, Festina. On May 18, 1949 he married Rita Hageman in Festina. They became the parents of six children. He was a lifetime member of Our Lady of Seven Dolors Church and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and the Rosary Society.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Dean and David in infancy; five brothers, Frank, Arnold, Hugo, Rudy, and Alphonse; and three sisters, Emma Lutkenhaus, Monica Wenthold, and Catherine Malone.
Survivors include his wife, Rita; two daughters, Jolene Wenthold of Fort Atkinson, Iowa and JoAnn Harry of Bernard, Iowa; two sons, Gary of Mahwah, New Jersey, and Alan of Fort Atkinson; two brothers, Edward and Hubert, both of Decorah; two sisters, Bertha Ehler, Decorah, and Ethel Lutkenhaus of Alta Vista; and three grandchildren.
