Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Donald Eugene Gavle, 25, of rural Waukon, Iowa, died Monday June 5, 1989 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident which occurred west of Waukon. Funeral services were held Thursday, June 8 at 11 a.m. at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Iowa, with the Rev. Philip Larson officiating. Burial was in the Big Canoe Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were Roger and Dennis Mahr, Curt Reiser, Jeff Byrnes, Nels Gavle, Reggie Berns, Jim Beardmore, and Kevin Dixon.
Donald was born October 16, 1963 in Waukon to Ronald and Beverly (Quandahl) Gavle and graduated from Waukon High School in 1982. He was a semi-truck driver with his father at Ron's Grain Service of Decorah and also for Cenex. On September 5, 1987 he married Diane Hart at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon. He enjoyed being a mechanic, did some stock car racing, played softball and liked to hunt. He was a member of the Big Canoe Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his wife, his parents of rural Decorah, maternal grandmother, Carrie Quandahl of Waukon; two brothers, Lowell of Decorah and Lee of Waukon; and two sisters, Mrs. Craig (Roxanne) Larson of Savage, Minnesota and Barbara Gavle of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
