Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Downing

Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Schutte Funeral Home to the Castalia E. U. B. Church for Mrs. Edna Downing, 67, who passed away at Decorah hospital Saturday. Burial was in the Castalia cemetery. Rev. Curtis H. Webster officiated.

Edna Howard Downing was born at Castalia, June 19, 1884, and passed away at the Decorah Hospital, June 7, 1952 at the age of 67 years, __ months and 18 days. She was the daughter of Samuel and Marti__ (Riggs) Hunter. She received her education in the Castalia public school.

February 22, 1910 she was united in marriage with Charles Delbert Downing of Monona, at which time they moved to a farm at Oelrichs, South Dakota. In 1931 they moved to their present home in Castalia.

She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away March 29, of this year. She is survived by one brother, Roy Hunter of Davenport, and one sister Edith (Mrs. John Windell) of Paradise, California, and also a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends who mourn her passing.

She was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church and an active member of the Ladies' Aid until failing health confined her to her home. Through a long and painful illness which she bore with fortitude and courage she always had a smile for everyone.
