Edwin Peterson, 66, retired Mabel Police Officer, died suddenly Saturday evening of an apparent heart attack.
He was born Dec. 23, 1916, near Mabel, the son of Henry and Cora (Ostern) Peterson. He attended the Mabel rural schools.
On Jan. 20, 1939, he married Verna Redwing, at Spring Grove. They farmed in the Mabel area until moving to Mabel where he served for 20 years on the Mabel Police Department. He has worked part-time at Four Square Oil Co. in Mabel for the past few years.
Survivors are his wife; two sons, Richard and Dean, both of Mabel; four daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Diane) Bakke, Mabel, Mrs. Bruce (Debra) Hunter, Davenport, Ia., Mrs. Gordon (Carol) Betz, Mrs. Joseph (Lorie) Bolduan, both of Caledonia; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Harold, Mabel, and a sister, Mrs. Byron (Marie) Bunge, Eitzen, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 12, at 2 p.m. at Mabel First Lutheran church. The Rev. Paul Tweeten officiated. Burial was in the Mabel cemetery.
The Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
