Jim Allen, 47, formerly of Mabel, dies.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mabel First Lutheran Church, with Rev. Lloyd Menke officiating.

James Oakley Allen, 47, of Colbert, Wash., a suburb of Spokane, died Wednesday morning, Nov. 2, 1994, of cancer.

He was born June 7, 1947, the son of Irma (Randall) and Irvin Allen, at Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital in Decorah. He was baptized at Hesper Lutheran Church, and was confirmed in the Mabel First Lutheran Church. He attended Mabel schools and graduated from Mabel High School in 1965.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army for two years. After that time, he went west and worked at Boulder, Colo., in a state hospital for children. From there, he moved to Helena, Mont., where he worked in a hospital. There he met Vicki Allan and they were married July 24, 1972, in Helena. They moved to Havre, Mont., where Mr. Allen went to college for two years. They moved to Spokane, where he graduated from college. Both worked at Sacred heart Hospital in Spokane. Mr. Allen worked as an inhalation therapist and Mrs. Allen as an RN. He died in his home with his wife caring for him.

Survivors include his wife, Vicki; a son, James Kyle, 14, and a daughter, Amy Sue, 18; his parents, Irvin and Irma Allen of Mabel; two sisters, Mrs. LuVerne Joyce) Raaen, Mabel and Jean Noltee, Rochester, Minn.

He was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnne Fay, 4 months.

A memorial serivce was held at the Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home, North 220 Division, Spokane, Wash., Monday, Nov. 7. A friend of his, Dan Richie, a chaplain at Sacred hear, officiated. He was cremated and requested his ashes be spread on Lake Pend Oreille, Idaho, where there is a U.S. Naval Station for testing submarines.

His hobbies were fishing and hunting.

Friends of his daughter, Gail Peterson, their baby sitter, and Carrie Peterson, sang How Great Thou Art and Memories.

If donations are not designated, his wish was they go to Lake Pend Oreille Idaho Club, in care of Vicki Allen, North 19525 Newport Hwy., Colbert, Wash. 99005. What they receive will be used for research, funds to support the club, and for stocking the lake.
