Internment services for Miriam (Haining) Meyer were held 11 a.m. on Friday, September 18, 1998 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Castalia. Rev. Verdon Swenson officiated.
Miriam Ruth Haining, the daughter of John and Mattie (Shaw) Haining was born June 29, 1918 in Duluth, Minnesota. She passed away September 3, 1998 in Phoenix, Arizona.
Miriam graduated from high school in Staples, Minnesota. On November 20, 1938 Miriam Haining and Orvel C. Meyer, of Castalia, were married at the home of the bride's parents in Staples, Minnesota. The couple lived in the Castalia and Postville area until 1954 when they moved to Minneapolis.
Miriam Meyer is survived by a son, Jim (Janet) Meyer of Athens, West Virginia, a son John Meyer of Pepin, Wisconsin, a daughter, Linda (Mike) Nichols of Palm Desert, California, and a daughter, Marcia Meyer of Pennsville, New Jersey; 3 sisters and 3 brothers, Hope Clark of Waukon, Lois Lind of Tacoma, Washington, Barbara Upstill of Tahunga, California, John Haining of Tacoma, Washington, Roscoe Haining of Alexandria, Minnesota, and Roger Haining of Woodworth, Washington; grandchildren, Judy Phillips and Barbara Carter of West Virginia, Randall, Daniel, Andrew, Rebecca, and Deborah Nichols of California, and Lynn, Gary, and Kristy Irwin of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband Orvel, a daughter Ellen Hahn of Cold Creek, Arizona, a granddaughter, Cathy Nichols of Palm Desert, California, and a sister, Wilma Lennon of Postville.
