Carl Vatland, 61, Mabel farmer, died Sunday evening at Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse where he had been a patient following surgery.

He was born January 26, 1910, on a farm in Newburg township, Fillmore County, Minnesota, the son of Hans and Bertha (Garness) Vatland. He was baptized and confirmed at the Garness Trinity Lutheran Church, of which he was a lifelong member.

On February 21, 1949, he married Lorraine Iverson of Mabel. They lived all their married life on a farm northwest of Mabel.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Colleen) Halverson, Ridgeway, Iowa, Mrs. Kenneth (Naydene) Reicks, Postville, Ia.; one grand child; three brothers, Alvin and Bennett of Mabel, and Henry of La Crosse. One sister Miss Gladys Vatland of Harmony was fatally injured in a car accident on Monday. Two brothers preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garness Trinity Lutheran Church.

The Rev N.K. Estrem will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
