Willard Darrington, 90, of Mabel, died Saturday, January 27, at Winneshiek County Memorial hospital in Decorah.

He was born March 30, 1899, in Winneshiek County, IA the son of Edward and Mary (Sellman) Darrington. He attended Mabel High School and Valders College in Decorah, later working as Deputy Treasurer of Winneshiek County.

On October 23, 1924, he married Cora Lee at Mabel. They farmed in Winneshiek County until moving to Mabel in 1980.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Joseph B. Lund Post #299 of the American Legion at Mabel, and a member of the Hesper Lutheran Church.

Survivors are his wife; two sons, Dean Darrington, rural Decorah, IA, The Rev. Davis Darrington of Green Bay, WI; one daughter, Mrs. Lyle (Harriet) Hoff of Minnetonka, MN; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 30 at 2 p.m. at the Hesper Lutheran Church. The Rev. Donald Peterson officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
