June Monroe

June Monroe, age 88, of Waukon, died Friday, August 27, 2004. Funeral services were held Monday, August 30, with Pastor Danny Volbrecht officiating. Burial was in the Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, Iowa. Hanson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

June was born June 14, 1916, in rural Frankville, to George and Elsie Allen. She attended the rural Frankville schools.

On July 10, 1934, she married Reuben Monroe. June and Reuben farmed near Castalia all their lives raising turkeys, chickens, pigs, geese, and milking cows. They retired to Waukon in 1971. They raised large gardens and shared the produce with everyone.

June loved cooking and cooked at the sale barn, several local restaurants, for weddings and funerals, pies for the fair, and for anyone who stopped by. June enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and bingo. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible Study. June enjoyed Tops and Weight Watchers. She loved her family, neighbors, and friends.

Survivors include her sister, Mable Vine of Oelwein; two sons, Allen Monroe of Freeport and Jerry (Patty) Monroe of Castalia; two daughters, Janette (Jerry) Ryder Blong of Waukon and Delores "Lorrie" (David) Beisker of Monona, 23 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

June was preceded in death by her parents, George and Elsie, her husband Reuben, and daughter, LaVerna Peck.

Casket bearers were Kelly Peck, Tom Ryder, Bill Ryder, Brian Monroe, Lonnie Beisker, Kendal Beisker, and Tony Monroe.
