Hazel's obituary, from the Austin Daily Herald, Austin, MN.

Mrs. Hazel Thompson, 81, passed away Feb. 8, 1985, at St. Mark's Lutheran Home, where she made her home the past three years.

The former Hazel Nelson was born Aug. 4, 1903, in Highland township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Nels and Flora (Darrington) Nelson. She attended Grindeland School, Highland Township.

She married Lauris Flatten Nov. 15, 1924, at Caledonia, Minn., and they had two children, Donald and Arlyss. They farmed in the Mabel, Minn., area until moving to Austin, Minn., in 1941, when Mr. Flatten came to work for the Hormel Co. He passed away Aug. 7, 1945.

She married Soren Thompson Sept. 6, 1952, and they resided at 1006 3rd Ave. SE, until he passed away July 20, 1971, and she moved to St. Mark's in 1982.

Her son Donald, passed away May 11, 1980.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Arlyss and Robert Placek, Austin; four step-children, Sy Thompson, Bud Thompson, Mrs. Leon (Lorraine) Peterson, Austin; Mrs. Nels (Marcella) Nelsen, Niceville, Fla,; a daughter-in-law, Mrs Don (Doris) Olson, Albert Lea; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Guy Nelson, Norval Nelson, Mabel, Minn., two sisters, Mrs. Andrew (Nina) Folkedahl, Hesper, Iowa; Mrs. Ruby Halse, Burr Oak, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 11, 1985, at Mayer Funeral Home, Rev. Joe Matt officiating. Pallbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons, Larry and Tony Flatten, Greg, Mike, Todd Arens, Mike Cook.
