Margaret Wells' obituary, in the Mabel Record of May 1, 1931.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Mabel M.E. church for Mrs. Geo. Wells, of Hesper, who died Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Amos Moore, near Harmony. Rev. J.W. Mettam, of New Ulm, Minn., formerly a pastor of the local church, preached the funeral service before a large gathering of relatives and friends. Interment was in the Hesper public cemetery.

Mrs. Wells, whose maiden name was Margaret Welch, was 71 years old at her death. Her death was preceded by a long illness.

The deceased was born in Rock county, Wis., May 16, 1859, the daughter of David and Margaret Welch. The family came to Winneshiek county, Iowa, during Mrs. Wells' early childhood.

She was married to Geo. E. Wells at Burr Oak, Iowa, December 24, 1885, and with her husband became a member of the Mabel Methodist church in 1916.

Their entire married life has been spent in Fillmore and Winneshiek counties. The deceased is survived by her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Amos H. Moore. A son, Charles, preceded her in death Sept. 23, 1915.

The following brothers and sisters survive: Mrs. James Stroud, Mabel; Mrs. L.J. Antrim, Mabel; W.R. Welch, Hesper, Iowa; Mrs. John Darrington, Minneapolis; Mrs. F.F. Babcock, Elliott, North Dakota; D.J. Welch, Mabel; and J. D. Welch, Hesper, Iowa.

Patience and thoughtfulness for others were among the lovable traits Mrs. Wells possessed, and even in her last affliction such did not diminish in her.
