Obituary for William M. Welch, Harmony News & Mabel Record of 25 Nov. 2004

William "Bill" J. Welch, 53, of Rochester, formerly of Mabel, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2004, after a brief illness.

He was born May 11, 1951, in LaCrosse to Willard "Bill" and Hariett (Hesselgrave) Welch. In 1969, he graduated from the Mabel-Canton High School in Mabel

On May 27, 1972, he married Kathleen Kruger in Cresco. They later divorced.

He worked as a mechanic at Volkswagen and Viking Oldsmobile in Rochester and recently as an independent service technician in Rochester.

He enjoyed following NASCAR races.

He is survived by a daughter, Paula (Ross) Badger of Rochester; a son Will(Jill) Welch of Stewartville; four granddaughters, Carmen Kaase, Emma, Lily, and Anni Welch; his mother, Harriet of Mabel; five sisters, LeAnn (Bob) Jevne of Decorah, Becki (Terry) Russell of Stoddard, Wis., Jann (Jim) Herzog of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Jackie (Gary) Ward of Canton and Marci (Lee) Vatland of Hayfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father .

Funeral services were Saturday at the Mabel First Lutheran Church in Mabel with the Rev. Stephen Fiksdal officiating. Burial was in the Hesper Public Cemetery.

Mengis Funeral Home in Mabel was in charge of arrangements.
