Here is the obituary for Grant Aasum, as written in the Mabel Record, 28, April 1977.
Grant Aasum:
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hesper Lutheran church for Grant Aasum, 81, who died Saturday evening at Tweeten Memorial Hospital in Spring Grove following an extended illness. The Rev. Bernhardt Polesky officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

He was born February 29, 1896, in Hesper Township, Winneshiek County, IA, the son of Ove and Mary (Benson) Aasum. He attended Mabel school and farmed in the Mabel area until moving here in 1973. He was a member of the Hesper Lutheran church. He never married.

Survivors are three brothers, Judene, Bennie and Melvin, all of Mabel; three sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Blanche) Storlie, Mrs. Gilman (Minnie) Myrah, Mrs. Harry (Stella) Lommen, all of Spring Grove. One brother preceded him in death. The Mengis Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.
