The Obituary for Clayton: Mabel, Minn., Funeral services for Clayton Mansfield Welch, 21-year-old rural Mabel man killed in a two-car collision on Highway 44, two miles east of Mabel Wednesday night, will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Hesper Lutheran Church, the Rev. Virtus Stoffregen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military rites by Joseph B.
Lund American Legion Post of Mabel. Pallbearers will be Curtis Bakke, Neil Rollie, Danny Benson, Steven and Neil Welper and James Allen. Friends may call at Mengis Funeral Home from 7 p.m. Saturday to Monday noon, and at the church Monday after 1 p.m. Welch collided with a car driven by William R. Ward, 54, Black River Falls Rt. 2, Wisc. The three persons injured in the accident still are patients at Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse. Miss Florence Wiste, Spring Grove, remains in serious condition with head injuries. Dale Baarsgard, Mabel, and William R. Ward, Black River Falls, were reported in satisfactory condition this morning. Miss Wiste and Baarsgard were in the Welch car and Ward was alone.

Welch was born April 30, 1947, to Donald and La Vonne Engebretson Welch, rural Mabel. He attended Mabel-Canton High School, entered service Oct. 18, 1966, and received his discharge last Oct. 18 after two years. He was in Vietnam one year. He was member of Hesper Lutheran Church. Survivors are: His parents; one brother, Todd; one sister, Candace; his paternal
grand-parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myron Welch, Mabel; his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Engebretson, Mabel, and his paternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Jennie Welch, 99, Caledonia. One brother has died. From the Welch collection.
