Here is the Obituary for Jane Mathildia Welch, 13 March, 1943: Jane Mathildia Welch was born in the city of New York on the 16th day of September, 1851, the daughter of David and Margaret Welch. When she was three months old, she moved with her parents to Pittsburg, Penn., and three months later to Johnstown Center, Rock County, Wisconsin. There she remained with her parents for nine years on a farm. In 1861 they moved to Minnesota and on July 10th settled on a farm near the state line, a short distance from the village of Hesper, Iowa. Here her girlhood days were spent.
On Feb. 25th, 1874, at the age of 22 years she was united in marriage to Allen M. Stroud. They lived on a farm near Hesper for several years then moved to Coddington, South Dakota. There they homesteaded on a farm, remaining there for period of fourteen years, at which time they sold their farm and came back to Minnesota. Here the remainder of their lives were spent. Mr. Stroud preceded her in death November 5th, 1927.At an early morning hour on March 13th, 1943, Aunt Jane departed this life having reached the age of ninety-one years five months and twenty seven days. Mr. and Mrs. Stroud were members of the Friends Church at Hesper, Ia., but quite recently Mrs. Stroud united with the Methodist church of Mabel. She was a member of the W.C.T.U. for a period of thirty-five years. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William, David, and John; also three sisters; Mrs. L.J. Antrim, Mrs. John Darrington and Mrs. George Wells. One sister survives, namely Mrs. F.F. Babcock of Elliot, North Dakota. Final rites were held Monday, March 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the home and 2 p.m. at the Methodist church, Rev. A.S. Earl officiating, Interment was in the Hesper cemetery. From the Welch collection.
