Eileen Casey

Eileen O. Casey, 78, of Prairie du Chien, Wis., died Monday, April 10, 2000, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 12, at 11 a.m., at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien.

Burial was at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien. The Garrity Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Eileen (O'Neill) Casey was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Dorchester, Wis., the daughter of William L. and Marie (McDonald) O'Neill. She graduated from Aquinas High School and St. Francis School of Nursing, both in La Crosse, Wis.

She was a First Lieutenant in the United States Army Nurse Corps during World War II in Europe.

Eileen worked as a nurse at Smith Memorial Hospital in DECORAH and in Independence at the extended care unit of Peoples Memorial Hospital and at the Mental Health Institute.

She very much enjoyed her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her children and grandchildren, Colleen (Paul) Gokey of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Sheila (Mark) Cannon of Iowa City, Kevin (Diane) Casey of Cuba City, Wis.; Timothy Casey of Van Horne, Terrance (Paula) Casey of Dallas, Texas, Mary Catherine Casey of Minneapolis, Minn., and Bridget (Dean) Krempges of Independence; and 15 grandchildren.

Also surviving are three sisters, Genevieve Austin of Janesville, Wis., Sister Catherine O'Neill of LaCrosse, Wis., and Marietta (Bill) Halpin of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; and four brothers, John J. (Dorothy) O'Neill of Dubuque, the Rev. William O'Neill of St. Paul, Minn.; Robert F. (Agnes) O'Neill of Janesville, Wis., and Gerald S. (Carol) O'Neill of Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.

Eileen Casey was preceded in death by her parents; one granddaughter, Kathleen Casey; one sister, Margaret Fraunfelder; and one brother, Thomas O'Neill.
