SERVICES FOR RETIRED OSSIAN MARSHALL SET
Rex Ward, 66, Ossian police officer for 20 years, died Tuesday afternoon, November 9, 1971, in the Decorah hospital. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 12, 1971 at the Schmitz Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Iowa. Officiating at the services will be Rev. A. Duane Manson. Mrs. Howard Knutson will be th organist accompaning Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hill as the soloists. The flower committeer will be Mrs. Frieda Linderbaum, Mrs. Irene Rogness, Mrs. Evelyn Wiltgen, and Mrs. Florence
Ward was born April 25, 1905, at Burr Oak. He was the son of Ernest and Lydia Ward. He spent his early years at Burr Oak where he attended public schools. On November 26, 1925, he married Mae Underbakke in Decorah, Iowa and the couple lived in Burr Oak until 1936 when they moved to Ossian. Rex worked for an auto company in Ossian until 1950 when he became Ossian's town marshall. He was marshall for twenty years, retiring in 1970. He also was a special deputy sheriff for many years.
Surviving include his wife, Mae, his mother Mrs. Ernest Ward, a daughter, Connie Mae (Mrs. Don Martens) of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a son, Robert Ward (wife Diane) of Decorah, Iowa, a brother Paul Ward of Burr Oak, a sister, Mrs. Gordon Reid of Burr Oak, and two grandchildren, Janeen Ward, and Chris Ward.
