Mary McCormick

Mary McCormick, 75, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001 at Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

An open visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 16 from 9 to 4 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, and an open Christian vigil service for the family and friends will begin at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Alphonsus Gathering Center, with visitation following.

Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant, with the Revs. Nick Adams and Ed Fitzpatrick officiating.

Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, with Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant handling arrangements.

Mary Louise McCormick was born August. 8, 1925 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Joseph and Sarah Scott Burns.

She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1942, and worked for Columbus Hayes at Hayes Elevator in Mt. Pleasant after high school.

On Sept. 12, 1946, she married Donald E. McCormick in Mt. Pleasant. They raised a family and farmed in Canaan Township, where she resided until her death.

Mary McCormick served on the Mount Pleasant School District Board for 18 years. She was appointed to the Iowa Girls Athletic Union where she served
for many years and was a lifelong member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.

Survivors include nine daughters: Ann Link of Grangeville, Ind.; Jane Coughlin of Boise, Idaho; Mary McCormick of Kalamazoov Mich.; Kay Rose of Mt. Pleasant; Barbara Wettach of DECORAH; Martha Huser of Sac City; Margaret Garden of Waco, Texas; Sara Peetz of Omaha; and Chris Hunting of Rochester, Ind.; three sons, Phillip D. McCormick, John T. McCormick and Patrick E. McCormick, all of Mt. Pleasant; 31 grandchildren; and one sister, Joanne Buch of Fairfield, Iowa.

Mary Louise McCormick was preceded in death by her husband; one sister and two brothers.
