Eben Schwartz

Eben Schwartz, 88, of Oelwein, died June 5, 2001 in Rochester, Minn., after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services were held at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein Saturday, June 9 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Combs-Lay officiating.

Organist was Marlene Gartz, and soloist was Jim Mazziotti. The hymn "On Eagle's Wings'' was sung.

Casket bearers were Tyler Jensen, Gerald Schmidt, Chris Mincks, David Schmidt, Rick Possum, and Donny Meyer.

Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.

Eben Alfred Schwartz was born July 29, 1912 in Oelwein, the son of Fred and Minnie (Medaus) Schwartz.

He grew up in the Oelwein area and attended the Oelwein school system.

He was united in marriage to Darlene June Triggiani in Oelwein July 14, 1946.

Eben Schwartz farmed his whole life and raised cattle, up until the year 2000.

Along with his love of farming, Eben Schwartz also loved to fly. He had his own plane and runway on his farm north of Oelwein. His brother Louis Schwartz also enjoyed flying, so they spent many hours together.

Eben Schwartz had a great ear for music and could play many different instruments.

His family remained his greatest love. His wife Darlene and his children and grandchildren were always first-in his heart. He was very dedicated to his wife, spending many hours caring for her the last few years of her life.

Eben Schwartz was a kind and loving man and will be missed by all that knew him.

Survivors include his three daughters, Debra and James Harkness of DECORAH; Connie and Steven Jensen of Carlisle and Barbara and Brian Chase of Fairbank; seven grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren.

Eben Alfred Schwartz was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Schwartz, Dec. 22, 1998; a daughter, Janice in 1946, a brother, Louis, a sister, Olga and his parents, Fred and Minnie Schwartz.
