Leslie Chensvold

Leslie Chensvold, 68, of West Union died Tuesday, April 10, 2001 of cancer at the Palmer Lutheran Health Center in West Union.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Friday,April 13 at Zion Lutheran Church in West Union, with Rev. Susan Friedrich officiating.

Casket bearers were Roger Chensvold, James Buchler, Jerry Buchler, Jeff Buchler, Richard Rose and Brian Rood.

Honorary pallbearers were Bernell Chensvold, Allen Chensvold, Norman Kleppe and Wayne Harness.

Organist was Barbara Temple, and soloists were Amy Kent and Doug Poppen.

Burial was in the West Union Cemetery, and Burnham and Wood Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Leslie Arthur Chensvold was born Sept. 3, 1932 to Arnt and Mae (Osterhus) Chensvold of OSSIAN.

He was baptized at First Lutheran Church in rural OSSIAN, and later confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church of rural OSSIAN.

He attended country school and graduated from the eighth grade. In 1954-55, he served in the United States Army, and on Jan. 14, 1966, he was united in marriage to Karen Buchler in South Dakota. The couple had two daughters.

Leslie was employed as an ice cream truck driver and then was self-employed as a sanitation hauler.

He took pride in his successful business, his family and his racing abilities.

He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church since April 1993.

Survivors include his wife, Karen Chensvold; two daughters, Deb and Randy Rovang and Mary and Danny Ellis; eight grandchildren and a sister, Bernice Frey of Platte, S.D.; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
