Bruce DeWitt

Bruce Lewis DeWitt, 70, died Sunday, May 14, 2000, at the Stratton House Hospital, Townshend, Vt., where he had been confined for three years
following a stroke. The cause of death was a heart attack.

Funeral services were held in Vermont Wednesday, May 17. The White Funeral Home handled arrangements.

Born Feb. 5, 1930, in DECORAH, the son of Bernard and Cora DeWitt, Bruce attended Decorah Community Schools, graduating from Decorah High School in 1949.

After graduation from Luther College, in DECORAH, in 1955, with a bachelor's degree in elementary education, he moved to Santa Paula, Calif., where he taught in the Santa Paula Elementary District for three years.

Following that, he taught in the Ventura Unified School District for 30 years and resided in Ventura and Ojai, Calif. After his retirement, he relocated to New England.

In 1954, Bruce was married to Helen Hanson of Starbuck, Minn., also a Luther College graduate with the Class of 1952. The marriage ended in divorce after 28 years.

Survivors include his mother, Cora DeWitt, a resident at the Aase Haugen Home in DECORAH; his son, Gregory and Linda DeWitt and grandsons Dan and Eric of Schuylerville, N.Y., and his daughter, Carrie and Gregory Ehresman
and granddaughter Samantha of Lafayette, Ind.
