Gordon Landsgard
Gordon Landsgard, 73, died Sunday, Sept. 3, 2000, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 11 a.m., at the Marian Lutheran Church in Gunder with the Rev. Marshall Hahn officiating.
Special music was provided by the Sunday Morning News whose members are Audrey Palmquist, Geralyn Torkelson, Larry Landsgard, David Wilker and Steven Amundson, accompanied by Audrey Palmquist, organist.
Casket bearers were Gary Landsgard, Daryl Landsgard, Alan Landsgard, Loren Landsgard, David Carlson and David Schlein.
Honorary bearers were Mervin Reierson, Harold Hanson, Milton Olson and Roger Wettleson.
Burial was at the church cemetery. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Clermont handled arrangements.
Gordon Lee Landsgard, the son of George Landsgard and Rosena (Torkelson) Landsgard, was born Jan. 14, 1927, at Churchtown, west of Lansing. He was baptized at Lansing and confirmed June 29, 1941, in the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder.
Gordon's parents moved from their home at Churchtown to a farm near Guilder when he was a child. He attended the Gunder School near his home in Clayton County and graduated from Postville High School in 1944. He had been a member of the Future Farmers of America.
On Aug. 5, 1950, he was married to Norene Amundson in the East Clermont Lutheran Church near Clermont. To this union six children were born: Brenda, Gary, Daryl, Alan, Linda and Loren. They were happy to celebrate their golden anniversary with their family last month.
Gordon had been a member of the Marion Lutheran Church, where he served on the Church Council and as a Deacon. He had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Gunder Cheese Factory and the Valley Co-op.
He was a lifelong dairy and hog farmer. Gordon strongly believed in soil conservation and wanted to preserve the land for future generations. He was a local Master Corn Grower and was honored by Pioneer Seeds for
several years.He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and belonged to Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever and the NRA.
Gordon played football and baseball in high school and played on the church softball team in the early 1960s. He enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren play ball and watch baseball on TV. Some of his favorite times were Sunday gatherings with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Norene of Clermont; his children, Brenda and David Carlson of DECORAH, Gary and Marsha Landsgard of Postville, Daryl Landsgard and Alan Landsgard, both of St. Olaf, Linda and David Schlein of Monona, and Loren and Lori Landsgard of Fairbank.
There are 10 grandchildren: Jenny and husband Todd Kleiner, Jonathan Carlson, Carson, Holly and Tyson Landsgard, Justin and Nikki Landsgard, Kyle and Katie Schlein and Madison Landsgard.
Also surviving are two brothers, Orlan and Corrine Landsgard of St. Olaf, and Maurice and Margie Landsgard of St. Olaf; and a sister, Geraldine and Leo Friederich of Elgin.
Gordon Landsgard was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geraldine, who died in infancy.
