Helene Steele
Helene Steele, 89, of Oelwein, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at the Oelwein Health Care Center, after a lengthy illness.
A funeral mass will be held Wednesday, Jan. 5, at 11:30 a.m., at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, with the Rev. Frederick Fangmann officiating.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, Jan. 4, from 4-7 p.m., at the Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home, Oelwein, with a parish scripture service at 6:30 p.m.
Burial will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Oelwein.
Helene G. (Wybrant) Steele was born Nov. 16, 1910, in Dubuque, the daughter of George and Helena (Grether) Wybrant.
She was married to Edward F. Steele Sept. 9, 1935, at Oelwein.
Helene had lived in Oelwein since 1935, where she was a cosmetologist for many years.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had been a resident of Mercy Living Plus and the Oelwein Health Care Center the last four years.
Survivors include two sons, Fred and Dorothy Steele of DECORAH, and Dick Steele and special friend Lori Leo of Oelwein; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one niece, Pam Blom of Cazenovia, N.Y.
Helene Steele was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Steele, who died Jan. 19, 1987; her sister, Ann Watt; and one step-brother, Bert Burridge.
