Gladys Kleppe
Gladys (Hilgerson) Kleppe, 91, formerly of Ossian, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000 at the Maple Crest Manor in Fayette after a short illness.
Services were held Thursday, Feb. 17 in Bethany Lutheran Church in rural West Union. Burial was in the church cemetery. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Gladys was born Nov. 11, 1908 to Andrew and Helga (Lervold) Hilgerson. She attended school at Dover #6 country school.
She married Frederick Kleppe on April 3, 1928 in the Lutheran parsonage in West Union. They farmed all their lives in the OSSIAN area, retiring to West Union in 1960.
Gladys moved into the Maple Crest Manor in August, 1998.
She is preceded in death by her husband, in 1987, her parents, a daughter, Frances Blockhus, and two brothers, Myron and Henry Hilgerson.
She is survived by three sons, Leslie Kleppe, West Union, Bernell Kleppe, Richland Center, Wis., and Gordon Kleppe, West Union; one daughter, LaVonne Osmundson, West Union; three brothers, Adrian Hilgerson, West Union, Clarence Hilgerson, Postville, and Howard Hilgerson, West Union; five sisters, Myrtle Mork, DECORAH, Ella Saboe, West Union, Thelma Schwinefus, OSSIAN and Arlene Sutler, West Union, 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
