Leona Drew

Leona Drew, 87, of Waukon, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon with Fr. Allen Schmitt officiating.

Casket bearers were Lyle and Keith Schulte, Ted and Jay Corrigan, Jeff Sanders and Greg Brevig.

Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Waukon. Martin Funeral Home of Waukon handled arrangements.

Leona Mae Kilpatrick Drew was born the daughter of Charles Samuel and Sarah Agnes (Ryan) Kilpatrick, January 11, 1914, on her parents farm in Union Prairie Township, rural Waukon.

She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's the Baptist, West Ridge Catholic Church.

Leona attended the rural "Stone School", St. Vincent's Academy in Dubuque, and graduated from the Waukon High School in 1933.

In May of 1933 she married Harold Drew at St. John's the Baptist Church.

She lived in the Waukon area before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1955 and moved back to Waukon in 1979.

Leona Drew was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and was a volunteer at St. Vincent's De Paul's in Waukon. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and sewing.

Survivors include four daughters, Angie and Maury Hart of Waukon; Marilyn and Roger Corrigan of Des Moines; Sherry Sparks of North Liberty and Marlene and Warren Bachtel of Bermuda Dunes, Calif; two sons, Dean and Karen Drew of DECORAH and Charles Drew of Readstown, Wis.

Additional survivors include a brother, Edward and Helen Kilpatrick of Longmont, Colo,, and a sister, Mary Howes of Waukon; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Leona Mae Kilpatrick Drew was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Harry, Charles and Jack Kilpatrick and two sisters, Helen Mellick and Lorna Howe.
