Amelia (Frey) Leuenberger was born Feb. 7, 1900, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Heuser) Frey, who farmed west of Spillville. She received her education in the neighborhood country school.
On Aug. 22, 1918, she married Monroe Leuenberger. To this union were born four children: Carl, Clinton, Marjorie and Arlene.
They farmed northwest of Fort Atkinson until 1959, when they retired to an acreage near Fort Atkinson. Monroe died in I960. Amelia continued living there until she moved to the senior apartment complex in Fort Atkinson.
Five years ago she went to live with her daughter, Marjorie and Dean Walker in Marble Rock. Two years ago she moved to Chautauqua Care Center in Charles City.

Amelia enjoyed the simple things in life, such as flowers, gardening, cooking, visiting, reminiscing and hearing the news. She was blessed with a wonderful memory all the way to the end of her near-century years.
She was a faithful member of the Calmar Community United Methodist Church in Calmar, an RSVP volunteer, and a charter member of Huber-Steffes American Legion Post No. 672.
