Richard Dale Quandahl
Richard D. Quandahl, 70, of Waukon, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2000 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon following a battle with cancer.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Waukon with Rev. Steve Campbell officiating.
Burial was at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon.
Richard was born on Jan. 31, 1930 in Spring Grove, Minn, to Sander and Carrie (Osmundson) Quandahl. He attended Bear Creek Elementary School in rural Quandahl and graduated from Waukon High School in 1947.
After high school, he worked in North Dakota harvesting wheat and potatoes.
On June 25, 1950, he married Ruth Loree Miller at Zion United Church of Christ in Waukon. From 1950 to 1953 they owned Allamakee Surge Service.
For a short time, he was a partner with his brothers, Osmund and Paul, in the grocery business.
He owned Quandahl Hardware from 1954 to 1966 and also had a large L.P. bottle gas route. In the late 1960s, he was a partner in Quandahl-Martin Ford Dealership in Waukon.
Since 1960, he and Ruth have farmed in Union Prairie Township. He also sold seed corn and did custom work for area farmers.
Richard served on the Waukon Equity Co-op Board, was a past president of the Upper Iowa Saddle Club and a member of the Farm Bureau and Forest Mills Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, horses and trail rides.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth, of Waukon; four sons Larry and Mitsuko Quandahl of Virginia, Allen Quandahl, Joe Quandahl, and Adam and Julie Quandahl, all of Waukon, two daughters, Dixie and Jim Madden of Paoli, Okla., Sally and Dennis Noland of Elizabeth, CoIo. and 12 grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers, Osmund and Phyllis Quandahl, Roger and Mary Quandahl, all of Waukon; Paul and Carol Quandahl of DECORAH,
and five sisters Eloise and Delbert Bulman and Sandra and Gordon Tangen, all of Dorchester, Naomi and Roger Ferguson of Hawaii, Beverly
and Ronald Gavle of DECORAH and Marsha Stroh of Waterloo.Casket bearers were Kevin, Ken and Matt Quandahl, Jerry Bulman, Richard Schwamman and Bill White.
