The following obituary was submitted by a Decorah Newspapers correspondent
Marvin Jothen
Marvin "Marv" C. Jothen, 80, of Cashton, Wisc., and formerly of Shorewood, Illinois, and Westby, Wisc., died Sunday, March 18, 2001 at his home.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 22 at the North Coon Prairie Church at 11 am., with the Rev. John Stennes-Spidahl officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
Marvin Jothen was born April 13, 1920 in Rongstad Ridge to Melvin and Clarissa (Fremstad) Jothen.
He attended rural Oium and Rongstad Schools and graduated from Westby High School.
He attended Luther College and served in the Navy as a medical corpsman.
On Nov. 21, 1942, he married Judith Bertling in Washington.
After serving in the military, he returned to Westby and operated the Newry Grocery Store.
Marvin Jothen returned to Luther College, earning his bachelor's degree in business admission in 1950.
He was a civil service employee for 35 years in the Department of Defense, primarily in Joliet and Rock Island, Illinois, and retired in 1994 to his farm in Cashton.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Michael and Gail Jothen of Phoenix, Md.; Justine and Michael O'Connell of Elwood, Illinois, and Ingrid and Gary Lansing of OSSIAN.
Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, four greatgrandchildren, and a brother, Donald and Kathryn Jothen of Bellingham, Wash.
Marvin (Marv) C. Jothen was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Maria.
